Olivia Scuderi ’20 is the Maryland State Winner in the Junior Category of the Make It With Wool competition. She will join the winners from the other states to compete for the National Junior Wool Ambassador title in Denver, CO, January 26-28.

Olivia began sewing only a year ago and was introduced to sewing with wool fabrics by a family friend. As a 4-H member who has shown sheep for seven years, Olivia appreciated the craft of sewing with wool. “I have learned a life skill,” she says. She created a pattern for leggings and modified a vest pattern and sewed the pieces for the competition. She participated and won in several county-level competitions to earn a spot at the Maryland State level. The award included the all-expenses-paid trip to the national competition, a new top-of-the-line iron, and Make It With Wool swag. Olivia says the opportunity has been more than just earning the title, though. “I’ve made a lot of friends through the competitions,” she says. “It was cool meeting other people my age who share the same passion.”

She plans to continue sewing and competing.
