Holy Cross Students have won the Verizon Innovative Learning app challenge Best In State (Maryland) award for the second year in a row! There were more than 1,800 submissions to the contest this year.

The team of Maureen Dailey ’17, Caroline Floam ’18, Karen Gordon ’17, Devan O'Neil ’18, Carly Sinay ’17, and Samantha Sinay ’17 created PantryPal, a concept that will connect users to local food pantries in need of supplies. All six of the girls on the winning team, in addition to the other 42 girls who submitted entries (eight teams total), were enrolled in the Intro to Computer Programming classes in the first semester taught by Lauren DeZinno. The Best In State award includes a $5,000 award and Verizon Ellipsis 10 tablets and cases for the winning team members.

The team now competes nationally to be elected Fan Favorite in which people across the country vote for their favorite app concept. The team with the most votes will receive an additional $15,000 for their school/group, in-person app development training from MIT experts, and an all-expenses-paid trip to the TSA conference in Orlando, Florida in June 2017. Last year, Holy Cross made it to the top 10 in the Fan Favorite.

To vote, text PANTRYPAL to 22333 using a mobile device from Monday, January 16 through Tuesday, February 14.
