Four juniors have been selected to participate in the Folger Shakespeare Library annual seminar "Shakespeare Sisters." The students, Katherine Beall '19, Maura Lyons '19, Annya Onyekwere '19, and Martha Phillipos '19, will attend weekly sessions for 10 weeks from January through March. The seminar participants will read and discuss selected poems by British and American women poets from the mid-sixteenth century to the present—and, for comparison, some poems written about women by men. Students will also learn to write poetry of their own. Participants will also be invited to a variety of poetry readings at the Folger Shakespeare Library during the seminar. Students from all over the Washington Metropolitan area apply to be selected into the program. To have four students selected from the same school is unusual given the small size of the seminar.
